Math... First Hand

    1. After an unfortunate incident involving a can of orange paint and his mom's favorite salt shaker, Ben's brother was grounded. Later that day, however, he did a great job mowing the yard and his dad took five days off of his sentence. When Ben's brother cleared the table and washed dishes after lunch, his mother removed one-third of the remaining days he was grounded. Then mom found last year's Halloween candy hidden in the couch cushions and grounded Ben's brother for an extra week. A sincere apology and good behavior the rest of the week shortened the punishment by three days, leaving Ben's brother grounded for two weeks. How long was Ben's brother grounded originally?

    2. An auditorium has five seats in the first row, seven seats in the second row, nine seats in the third and so on. If the auditorium has 15 rows, how many people can it seat?

    3. Calculate the surface area of a standard soda can.
