- In Joseph's backyard is a well 30 feet deep. An unfortunate slug has fallen to the bottom of the well. The slug tries to climb out of the well, but can only climb three feet each day. Each night as he sleeps, the slug slips two feet closer to the bottom of the well. If the slug begins climbing on July 13, on what date will he finally leave the well?
(check: the answer is NOT August 12)
- The numbers on dice are always arranged so that the numbers on opposite faces add up to seven (check it out!). Each of the figures below could be folded to create a cube. Label the blank sides so that the cubes will be proper dice.
- Wooden blocks are piled together to make a 3 x 3 x 3 cube. Bryan paints the exterior faces of this larger cube. The blocks are then taken apart and dropped into a bag. If Bryan draws a cube from this bag without looking, what is the probability he selects a cube that has been painted on exactly two sides?
