    3. Alex has a set of encyclopedias with 20 volumes. Each volume is the same size. The pages of each volume are 2 ¼ inches thick, and each cover is 1/8 of an inch thick. The volumes are sitting on a shelf in Alex's room. A worm chews his way through the encyclopedia. The worm begins at the first page of the first volume and eats through to the last page of the last volume. How far has the worm traveled?
      (check: the answer is NOT 49 ¾ inches)
