    1. Max and Peter are growing roses for their science project. This morning they were alarmed to find the flowers covered with aphids - small insects that eat roses. They decide to buy ladybugs to combat the aphids since ladybugs are aphid predators and will not harm the roses. The students count 153 aphids on one of the 15 plants. Eat plant has approximately the same number of aphids. Ladybugs are sold in boxes of 12. How many boxes should they buy to allow one ladybug for every 8 aphids?

    2. The speed of light is 186,182 miles per second. How many miles can light travel in a non-leap year? Express your answer in scientific notation to two decimal places.

    3. If the average layer of an onion is one-eighth of an inch thick, how many layers would be in an onion five inches in diameter? What would be the volume of this onion?
