Here are a few short reports on various medical problems in the classroom. The papers cover medical conditions that occur in school-age children with varying degrees of frequency. Each report describes the ailment, its treatment and modifications for the classroom teacher.

Angelman Syndrome - Angelman Syndrome is a genetic disorder affecting mental development. Patients develop slowly and are usually treated through therapy.
Asthma - Asthma refers to easily irritated airways. Asthma is the leading cause of school absence. Asthma is not curable, but through proper treatment usually goes into remission.
Cerebral Palsy - Cerebral Palsy or CP is any type of motor impairment due to brain injury. There are varying levels of impairment and CP can be accompanied by a variety of other ailments.
Kyphosis - Kyphosis is a curvature of the thoracic spine, commonly referred to as hunchback or swayback. Kyphosis may be posture related or caused by bone malformation.
Meta-females - Meta-females or Triple-X Syndrome is a genetic condition where a female carries more than the normal two X-chromosomes. Patients with this syndrome are prone to a few developmental problems, but the condition is usually not serious.
PKU - Phenyketonuria or PKU is a condition where the body cannot use a certain protein. The protein then builds up in the bloodstream, and can stunt physical and mental development. Patients should be put on a special diet to avoid mental retardation.
